NORTHAMPTON — A 19-year-old Wilbraham man will face charges of operating to endanger after the vehicle he was driving went airborne and crashed into trees on Burts Pit Road on Friday night.
Northampton Police officers responded to the scene of the crash, just past the city’s dog park at 51 Burts Pit Road, around 8:30 p.m. When police officers arrived, they found the extensively damaged vehicle as well as the vehicle’s two occupants, who had managed to free themselves from the wreckage, according to a post on the Northampton Police Department’s Facebook page.
Northampton police officers determined the vehicle was traveling “well in excess” of the posted 20 mph speed limit.
“When navigating a sharp turn at this speed, the vehicle failed to make the turn and left the roadway and went airborne, collided with three trees, and then flipped over several times before landing upright,” the Police Department stated.
Both unidentified occupants were treated by Northampton Fire Rescue on scene for minor injuries.
