NORTHAMPTON — Many cities and towns in Hampshire County, as well as Holyoke, remained in the most risky category for COVID-19 in the state’s weekly report released Thursday.
Holyoke, Easthampton, Southampton, Hatfield, Granby, South Hadley, Hadley and Belchertown were all in the red, or most risky for COVID-19.
Among the towns with higher new case counts in Hampshire County, Southampton saw 68 cases in the last two weeks, or 80.7 per 100,000 people, and had a positivity rate of 10.53%. Holyoke had 551 cases, or 96.8 per 100,000 residents, and a positivity rate of 8.11%
Northampton and Amherst, remained in the yellow, or caution zone, in part because their positivity rates are below 5%. Towns with a population between 10,000 and 50,000 are in the red category if they have 10 or more cases per 100,000 people and a positivity rate of 5% or more.
Northampton had 130 cases in the last two weeks, or 31.8 cases per 100,000 people and a positive test rate of 3.36%.
