PELHAM — Christoper Bartlett, 31, has been identified as the victim of a fatal house fire at 109 North Valley Road early Friday morning, according to the state fire marshal’s office.
The body of Bartlett, a 2012 graduate of Amherst Regional High School, was found inside the home after initially being unaccounted for. He was the son of the late Robert Bartlett, a former member of the town’s Select Board, and Stella Svoboda Bartlett.
Jake Wark, a spokesman for the fire marshal’s office, said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but the preliminary investigation indicates that it was not suspicious.
The origin and cause of the fire are being investigated by the Pelham Fire Department, Pelham Police Department, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office.
Pelham firefighters responded to the fire after getting a 911 call from a passer-by at 2:30 a.m., finding the home engulfed in flames, with fire venting through the roof and windows as fire suppression began.
The fire caused catastrophic damage to the building, including partial collapses of the roof and walls, even as firefighters were able to extinguish most of the fire within an hour.
