UMass freshman guard R.J. Luis entered the transfer portal, he confirmed Tuesday on Twitter.

The Miami native averaged 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game with four 20-point games, including a career-high 31 against Duquesne in the Mullins Center. He was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team.

“First and foremost, I want to thank GOD for blessing me and allowing me to play the sport that I love. Thank you to my family and all my loved ones for inspiring me and pushing me to be the man I am today,” Luis wrote in a post. “I also want to thank (UMass) coach (Frank) Martin and all of the UMass staff for giving a kid from Miami the opportunity to learn, grow and compete at the collegiate level. I want to thank my teammates, the fan base and the entire Massachusetts community for supporting me and welcoming me with open arms.”

Luis is the fifth Minuteman to transfer following Frank Martin’s first season and second freshman to leave Amherst after one season.

Guards Noah Fernandes and T.J. Weeks Jr. and forwards Dyondre Dominguez and Tafara Gapare previously put their names in the portal.
