Derek Kellogg’s UMass homecoming ended up a short one.

The Minutemen men’s basketball assistant will depart Amherst after just a year to fill a vacant assistant spot on Creighton’s staff under head coach Greg McDermott according to a tweet by Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.

Kellogg came back to UMass after playing there in the mid 1990’s and serving as the program’s head coach from 2008-17.

Creighton went 24-13 last season and reached the Elite 8.

He’ll fill the opening created after Blue Jays assistant Alan Huss became High Point’s head coach.

Kellogg also spent five years as LIU’s head coach after UMass fired him following the 2017 Atlantic 10 Tournament.

MAMMOTH ACCOMPLISHMENT – Longtime Amherst College women’s lacrosse coach Chris Paradis will be inducted into the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023 in November.

Paradis went 321-123 and ranks 10th all-time among Division 3 coaches. She won a national championship in 2003 and was a two-time regional coach of the year. Amherst made 14 NCAA tournament trips under her, reaching six Final Fours and three national championship games.

JOINING THE PACK – The first of UMass’ departed men’s basketball players has found his way out of the portal.

Forward Dyondre Dominguez announced he’ll play at Arkansas State on his Instagram. The Wolves went 13-29 last season and fired head coach Mike Balado. They hired Alabama assistant Bryan Hodgson on March 22.

Dominguez averaged 8.7 points and 4.4 rebounds coming off the bench for the Minutemen. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.

That still leaves five UMass men in the transfer portal: Noah Fernandes, Tafara Gapare, R.J. Luis, John Kelly and T.J. Weeks Jr.

ANOTHER STOP – UMass hockey forward Josh Nodler will transfer to Bowling Green for his final season of college hockey. The Calgary Flames draft pick finished with five points and two goals in 27 games for the Minutemen after transferring from Michigan State last season.
