GREENFIELD — After years of isolation and hard work in the fight for trans liberation, the Trans Asylum Seeker Support Network (TASSN) is hosting a fundraising dance party at Just Roots farm on Glenbrook Drive.

“It will be a place to safely dance during COVID, a place where everyone is welcome to show up as their full selves and support a liberatory mutual aid network,” said Miriam Kudler-Flam, who is both a farmer at Just Roots and also a collective member at TASSN, a mutual aid network of volunteers and organizers that formed in early 2019 to help transgender asylum-seekers in the Pioneer Valley.

The party will be held Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight, and will feature DJs spinning Latin, Motown and fusion sets, a raffle fundraiser and cake. Kudler-Flam said a lot of birthdays will be celebrated.

“It’s the first time we’ve had this kind of collaboration at Just Roots with … TASSN,” she said.

Kudler-Flam explained TASSN works with individuals who have crossed the border and are seeking asylum in the United States to ensure access to medical resources, legal representation, emotional support and community-building resources.

“With the plethora of needs that folks have when they come out of incredibly inhumane and restricted conditions in (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) detention centers,” she said, “we meet them and … work with them to stabilize their lives going forward.”

The idea for Saturday’s party came from a resident who loves to dance and wanted to have a dance with a fundraising component, Kudler-Flam explained.

Entry will be on a sliding scale, with suggested payments between $10 and $50. Kudler-Flam said nobody will be turned away. Raffle tickets, which will be sold at $3 each, will benefit the TASSN Emergency Fund.
