NORTHAMPTON — A person accused of assaulting a man with a knife downtown on Friday has been summoned to court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to Northampton Police Capt. Victor Caputo. The name of the person who allegedly stabbed the man could not be released until they go to court, Caputo said.

A man was found bleeding from stab wounds Friday afternoon on Pleasant Street. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Northampton police said, and on Monday, Caputo did not have information about his condition.

Witnesses described a verbal disagreement and said one person pulled out a knife, Caputo said.

The victim’s injuries, police reported, were “consistent with multiple knife wounds.” Caputo added that some information is not known. “The victim was not very cooperative with the investigation,” he said.
