NORTHAMPTON — Two drivers from Hampden County died in separate car crashes in Northampton and Westhampton on Thursday night, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

In Northampton, a 62-year-old Springfield man died in a two-car, rear-ending accident on Damon Road, near the intersection with King Street 8:52 p.m., said Laurie Loisel, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.

That man, who is not being identified, may have died as the result of a possible medical event, and no charges have been filed, Loisel said. The only occupant in his vehicle, he was declared dead at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Northampton Police, State Police assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office and troopers with the Crime Scene Services Section and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section are investigating.

At 10 p.m., a 17-year-old from Westfield was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Southampton Road in Westhampton. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Police and emergency responders from Easthampton, Westhampton and Southampton responded to the scene, with the teenager pronounced dead at the site of the crash.

As with the Northampton crash, State Police are investigating. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the causes of death in both crashes.
