SOUTH HADLEY — Police are investigating a Tuesday night shooting near Lyman Street that sent one person to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police Chief Jennifer Gundersen said officers received a report of shots fired in the area of the 100 block of Lyman Street at around 7:50 p.m. Officers along with town firefighters found one person at the scene who had a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital.

Gundersen declined to release any further information about the identity of the victim. When asked if a suspect has been identified, Gundersen said that the shooting is under investigation. She said witnesses were identified.

“We believe it’s an isolated incident and not an ongoing threat to the public,” Gundersen said.

South Hadley police and detectives with the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office are investigating the shooting.
