NORTHAMPTON — Police say an intoxicated driver sped away from officers early Sunday, crashing several times before plowing into parked cars at a car dealership on Damon Road.

The Northampton Police Department said that at 2:40 a.m. an officer driving on Bridge Street saw a car fail to dim its lights, and then cross into the opposite lane multiple times. The officer tried to stop the car, the department reported on its Facebook page.

“The vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, crashing multiple times and taking out a street sign on the side of the road,” the department stated. “A short distance later, the vehicle crashed into several cars parked at the Volvo dealership on Damon Road.”

Two of the three people in the vehicle were arrested, police said.

The driver, a 33-year-old Chicopee woman, faces 10 charges, including OUI, possession of a class A substance, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of property damage and several other traffic violations, according to Northampton police. She also had two arrest warrants out of Holyoke and Eastern Hampshire district courts.

One of the passengers, a 29-year-old man from Connecticut, was charged with possession of a class C substance. He also had an arrest warrant out of Northampton District Court, police said.
