BELCHERTOWN — A Springfield man was arraigned in Eastern Hampshire District Court on Thursday in connection with a Feb. 4 non-fatal shooting at Anthony’s club in South Hadley.

Omega Walker, 21, pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, assault and battery by discharging a firearm, felony in possession of a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building. He was ordered held on $100,000 bail.

Officers working a police detail at the club at 500 New Ludlow Road heard gunshots inside the building at approximately 1:25 a.m. and saw multiple patrons fleeing the building, according to a police report.

When he arrived at the scene, Police Sgt. Michael Pollender was approached by Armando Olivares, 24, who told Pollender that he had been shot, according to court documents. Pollander observed that Olivares had been shot in the upper left chest area. Olivares was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries at the scene, according to court records. No other injuries were reported.

Ballistics and crime scene experts were called in to investigate the area, according to the report. Surveillance video showed a man entering the club minutes before the shooting with another armed male. Police identified Walker and another man as the suspects. Both parties had prior charges for assault with a dangerous weapon in Springfield District Court, and neither had valid firearm licenses, according to court records.

Walker is the brother of Reality Shabazz Walker, who was killed in 2010. Olivares was acquitted of a murder charge in Reality Walker’s death in Hampden Superior Court in 2013.
