NORTHAMPTON — Massachusetts State Police have identified the Northampton man killed this weekend in a single-car crash in Boston’s Sumner Tunnel.

Michael Lap, 24, was driving with two passengers when the crash occurred Sunday morning at around 3:20 a.m., according to State Police. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Troopers responded to the Sumner Tunnel, on the ramp to Storrow Drive, and found all three occupants of the vehicle had serious injuries.

Lap died at the scene. His two passengers — an 18-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man — were taken by ambulance to Mass General Hospital. Their conditions are not currently known, State Police said Monday.

The ramp was closed during the initial investigation and clean up of the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS). Troopers were also assisted on the scene by the Medical Examiner’s Office, Boston EMS and MassDOT.
