NORTHAMPTON — The Northampton City Council unanimously elected At-large City councilor Gina-Louise Sciarra as council president at its meeting Tuesday.
“My goal, if elected by you as council president, is to lead in a way that is of service — because of course, that’s why we’re here,” Sciarra said to the council before the vote. “But in addition to the people of the city, in service to all of you.”
Sciarra is the first woman to win an at-large seat on the council in more than 25 years and was elected to the post in November. She succeeds outgoing City Councilor Ryan O’Donnell as president. She was first elected to the council in November 2013 when she won the Ward 4 seat.
At the same meeting, Ward 3 City Councilor James Nash was elected vice president of the council. Nash was first elected to the council in a special election in November 2016.
