NORTHAMPTON — Officer Michael McLaughlin answered the call of duty on Friday morning, which in this case meant rescuing a duckling.
McLaughlin encountered the fuzzy baby bird on Locust Street near the Silk Mill, where he said people were trying to catch it. He said he was alerted to the situation by cars pulled over to the side of the road.
McLaughlin was assisted by those present in securing the bird, and he took it back to the Northampton Police Station, where it was greeted with smiles.
“Everyone loved it,” he said.
McLaughlin said that the duckling has been brought to a sanctuary by animal control.
