ASHFIELD — A 53-year old North Carolina woman driving a Toyota RAV4 was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Route 116 in Ashfield at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the Northwestern district attorney’s office reported.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Route 116. The driver of the other vehicle, a 22-year-old man in a Chevrolet Silverado, was transported by ambulance to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The North Carolina woman, whom authorities did not immediately identify, was pronounced dead at the scene at roughly 6:10 p.m., according to the DA’s office. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

State Police troopers assigned to the Shelburne Falls barracks, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) and the Detective Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene, as did first responders from Plainfield and Ashfield.

State Police reported another fatality a short time later in the Berkshire County town of Florida, in which a 44-year-old local man died in a motorcycle accident on River Road.

The man was riding a 2007 Harley Davidson, and police said it was unclear why he lost control of the bike. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The man was transported to Berkshire Medical Center in North Adams where he succumbed to his injuries, according to State Police.

The crash remains under investigation with assistance from State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section and Berkshire County State Police Detective Unit. Florida Fire and Northern Berkshire EMS assisted.
