HADLEY — A new office at the Hampshire Mall will be used by law enforcement agencies to improve outreach to area senior citizens about their safety and crime prevention.
On Tuesday, the Hampshire sheriff’s office, joined by Hadley police and the Northwestern district attorney’s office, opened the shared TRIAD office, in the corridor near Planet Fitness.
The agencies will be working cooperatively from the space to expand TRIAD, a community policing initiative that brings law enforcement together with senior citizens and service providers to offer better protections against scams and financial exploitation.
“We are excited to work with the Sheriff’s Department in this new space,” Hadley Police Chief Michael Mason said in a statement
Mason said the plan is to offer community-based events and have officers and dispatchers available to meet and speak with residents when possible.
Even when closed, the space has informational pamphlets on a rack displayed outside the entrance, and advertisements for job opportunities in law enforcement.
Sheriff Patrick J. Callihane said 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of TRIAD and that he is “hopeful our new office will mark the beginning of a great new chapter for this outstanding program.”
