I remember after October 7th, maybe the 8th or 9th, this paper posted an offensive political cartoon depicting a character with a globe head (the white, euro-centric world order) telling a (what I assume was the depiction of) Palestinian man that the “world” doesn’t care about them anymore. How wrong you were. Setting aside the fact that the white, Eurocentric world has never “cared” for Palestinians, this cartoon struck me as racist. It is a racist ideology that the white, Eurocentric perspective is the “right” perspective. I was sorry to see it in our newspaper. Today, I am grateful to see the people of our local cities, Amherst and Northampton, joining municipalities around our country and the world to stand up and demand a cease-fire. We do care and we are standing up against the genocidal assault on the people of Gaza in the face of our complicit federal government and their media lackeys.
