Two years ago, Allen Davis and I wrote an op-ed entitled, “What’s At Stake in Georgia? Everything!” Two years later, remarkably, the same holds true. What happens on Dec. 6 in Georgia will affect the next two years and beyond in essential ways. Here’s what’s at stake this time: A 51/49 Senate means committees are not required to share power with Republicans. The 50/50 Senate prevented important legislation and key nominations from leaving committees. The House of Representatives had to conduct the Jan. 6 investigation because Senate Republicans squashed it. 51/49 prevents one Senator (Manchin or Sinema) from hijacking legislation and blocking nominations. Manchin will only be more likely to sabotage Democratic legislation and swing further right since he is up for reelection in 2024 in the state Trump won by 38.9%. As one Georgian voter summed up what his state’s voters face: “One candidate is a qualified senator. The other is Hershel Walker, an unstable, unqualified, contradictory Trump-endorsed yes-man.” What can you do to right now to help elect Rev. Raphael Warnock? 1) Donate to The Georgia Alliance for Progress. They are organizing and hiring thousands of canvassers to get out the vote for Raphael Warnock. Donate here: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/runoff-challenge?refcode=share 2) Write postcards. Join in on this effort!! https://www.fridayaction.org/contact/#volunteer 3)Phone bank. Yes, everything is still at stake on Dec. 6!
