I feel I have to react to the April 21 front-page Gazette article with the headline ”Opposition to apartments mounts,” about people trying to stop or downsize the proposed 54-unit apartment complex at the corner of Phillips Place and Hawley Street in Northampton.

Come on, people. Stop with the “Not in My Backyard” (NIMBYism). Housing in the area has become in quite short supply and burdensomely expensive due to the obstruction of building by much of the local population. It’s made life difficult and expensive in particular for the generations younger than the boomers — Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z.

Let’s think more of other people besides ourselves. Build the Northampton project at the full planned 54-unit size. Build other housing too. Yes in my backyard! YIMBY!
