High schools: Four Tigers score in double figures as South Hadley girls take down Amherst

Four players scored in double figures, and the South Hadley girls basketball team captured a 64-24 Suburban League victory over Amherst on Thursday night.
Maddie Soderbaum led the way with 16 points for the Tigers. Ava Asselin added 12 points in the win, and Caitlin Dean and Kate Phillips each tossed in 10.
South Hadley used a 22-5 edge in the first quarter to get out and running. The Tigers led 36-9 at the half.
Shannon Klaes paced Amherst with eight points, and Zola Higham followed with seven.
Granby 45, Mount Everett 19 – A 17-2 edge in the first quarter was more than enough for the Rams, which cruised to victory on Thursday night.
Kalli White led all scorers with 16 points for Granby, and Aubrey Parent notched 13 in the win. Sophia Gagnon hit a pair of 3-pointers to aid the cause.
Northampton 77, SICS 50 – The Blue Devils stormed out of halftime and scored 26 points in the third quarter to pull away for a decisive victory on Thursday.
Ava Azzaro set the tone offensively with a game-high 26 points for Northampton, while Bri Heafey (13 points), Emme Calkins (12) and Ava Oravec (10) all joined her in double figures.

Whitney Campbell finished with eight points, Skyler Steele scored seven points while Olivia Machon and Hailey Hutkoski both tallied five points in the win.
Easthampton 47, Hopkins 6 – The Eagles were balanced offensively, and suffocating defensively en route to the lopsided victory on Thursday in Hadley.
Kyleigh Dorman and Sophia Faginski led the way with 11 points apiece, and Kayley Downie added 10 points in the win for Easthampton, which led 20-1 after one quarter and 32-1 at halftime.
Chloe Kosciusko scored three points for the Golden Hawks, and Juliana Eichenlaub added two.
Gateway 38, Hampden Charter West 34 – Ron Keach scored 14 points and Jesse Balboni tallied 12 to help the Gators eke out a tight victory on Thursday.
Gateway led 19-6 after one quarter to set the tone, as Keach scored 12 of his 14 in the opening stanza.
Cleary tops girls’ field
Hampshire Regional’s Ella Cleary paced the local pack, as she raced to a fourth-place finish in the girls portion of PVIAC Race No. 3 on Thursday night at Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont.
Cleary posted a time of 49.97 seconds in the slalom, which was won by Mohawk Trail’s Addie Loomis for the third race in a row (44.52).
PVCICS’ Sarah Fardal was next in 10th place to pace Hampshire County (53.59), while Hampshire’s Dana Warren (14th, 57.47) and Northampton’s Simone Pagar (18th, 1:01.50) also skied their way into the top 20 overall.
Other locals on the girls side who fared well Thursday included Northampton’s Camilla Hatch (22nd, 1:03.61), Maisie Tuck (24th, 1:05.08), Crystal Eichwald-Hoopes (26th, 1:07.74) and Giselle Ohm (27th, 1:07.75), Hampshire’s Tessa Burke (32nd, 1:11.15), Amherst’s Maya Phillips (33rd, 1:12.06) and Milo Osborne (35th, 1:12.73), and PVCICS’ Alexandra Hyrne (34th, 1:12.19).
Warren, Dunn go back-to-back
On the boys side, Hampshire’s Billy Warren and Jon Dunn were the top local finishers as they went fourth and fifth, respectively, in the giant slalom at Berkshire East on Thursday.
Warren crossed fourth in 32.50 seconds, just ahead of Dunn’s time of 33.66 seconds. Mohawk Trail went 1-2 on the boys’ side, as Weston den Ouden won the GS (30.38) and Gage Patenaude was second (31.94).
Northampton’s Keller Mahoney was also a top 10 finisher, taking ninth overall in 34.05 seconds.
Hampshire had four other skiers inside the top 35 individually: Isaac Stith (11th, 34.85), Chad Hockenberry (19th, 37.47), Brandon Couture (20th, 37.56) and Ben Zajac (33rd, 41.33).
PVCICS was paced by Clayton English (13th, 35.64), James Scott (14th, 35.80) and James Janssen (34th, 41.61), while Northampton received top 35 finishes from Jasper Tuck (22nd, 38.39), Jonah Abel-Waisman (28th, 40.20) and Henry Fallon (32nd, 40.74).
Amherst put three skiers inside the top 35, including Alex Cain (24th, 38.97), Wes Dunford (29th, 40.50) and Mihir Shenoy (35th, 41.67).
Boys basketball
Northampton 65, Holyoke 55 — Despite being outscored by nine in the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils hung on behind 19 points from Naihmond Peters-Wolfe – one of four players in double figures for Northampton (Luke McGrath, Jackson Lockett, Silas Coles).
The Blue Devils erupted on a 22-7 run in the third quarter after taking a four-point lead into halftime. That 15-point swing was enough to withstand a combined 35 points from Holyoke’s Jamil Rodriguez, Jordan King-Perilli, and Shawn Rivera.
Wrestling
Athol 54, Frontier 30 — Five Redhawks wrestlers picked up individual wins on Wednesday, all via pinfall. Wyatt Finch (120), Ben Baker (144), Konnor James (150), Ed Mieczkowski (175), and Javion Cabrera (285) earned six points each for Frontier.
Hampden Charter East 45, Northampton 0 — The Blue Devils fell to 0-6-1 on the season. Northampton’s Levi Morin lost a close 12-7 decision to Kevin Christian in the loss.
Boys swimming
Holyoke 43, Hampden Charter West 35 — Brady Pijar paced the Purple Knights, winning the 200 individual medley in 2:20.53 and helping the 200 freestyle relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 2:06.47.
Holyoke’s Julian Vann participated in that same relay and also grabbed a win in the 200 freestyle (3:17.16).
Girls swimming
Holyoke 116, Hampden Charter West 8 — The Purple Knights took first in every event and improved to 5-1 on the year in a comfortable win over Hampden Charter West on Wednesday evening.
Gracie Levreault won four events, participating in the 200 medley relay (2:14.59), 200 individual medley (2:44.43), 100 freestyle (1:03.81), and the 200 freestyle relay (1:57.57). Trinity Roy was a three-event winner, as she competed on both relay teams and earned a win in the 100 backstroke (1:11.00).
