High schools: Balanced scoring lifts Northampton boys soccer to victory

Six different players scored goals for the Northampton boys soccer team in a 6-1 Holley League victory over Springfield International on Friday in Springfield.

Sam Busone, Max Marlin, Minti Peterson, Johnny Nields-Duffy, Ryland Breen and Nick Biddle were the goal scorers for Northampton. Will Senn-McNally notched two assists in the win, and Sky Allen-Bresnyak made five saves in goal.

South Hadley 3, Easthampton 0 — Anthony Adams found the back of the net twice, and the Tigers snapped a three-game skid with a 3-0 victory over the Eagles on Friday.

Moki Kovacs also tallied in the win for South Hadley (6-8-1), and goalie Noah Carillon made four saves.

Girls soccer

Hampshire 1, Southwick 0 – Emma Allyn scored the only goal of the game assisted by Maisie Bowler. 

Hampshire goalie Makena Rogalski stopped all five shots she faced for the shutout.

Granby 4, SICS 2 — The Rams did all their damage in the first half, building a 4-1 halftime lead and holding off SICS on Friday.

Sophia Gagnon, Kelly Lynne Kennedy, Kalli White and Molly Zumbruski all scored for Granby in the win, and Brenna Moreno notched an assist. Goalie Meredith Bartosz made six saves in goal.

Holyoke 4, Greenfield 0 — The Purple Knights scored all four of their goals in the second half en route to a 4-0 independent win on Friday.

Grace Bechard scored twice for Holyoke, which also received goals from Kyra Lippman and Kya Donnelly. Kayshaly Garcia and Selina Alicia notched assists.

Gateway 4, Renaissance 0 — The Gators continued a solid run of play late in the season, taking down Renaissance 4-0 on Friday night.

Maia Kibbe tallied twice for Gateway (4-6-2), while Anna Sakaske and Elle DeMoss also scored goals in the win. Sakaske registered an assist and goalie Jayliana Rivera stopped all three shots she faced.

Girls volleyball

Frontier 3, Ludlow 0 — The Frontier girls volleyball capped its regular season in winning fashion on Friday night.

On the road at Ludlow, the Redhawks handled their business en route to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-11 independent sweep over the Lions. Frontier improved to 14-5 on the season and now awaits its seeding and matchup in next week’s Western Mass. Class B Tournament.

Gabby Adams put down a team-high eight kills in the win, while Caroline Deane followed with four kills. Rozalyn Schempp and Olivia Machone had three kills each, and setters Allie Pierce (11 assists) and Parrish Stilla (seven assists) spread the ball around as eight different Frontier players recorded at least one kill.

Pierce paced the service attack with six aces, and the defense was paced by Adams’ five digs.

Girls soccer

Hopkins 2, Mahar 1 — Golden Hawks forward Helen Vissas netted two goals less than 10 minutes apart late in the second half to spark a come-from-behind win over the Senators. Olivia Earle recorded the assist on both of Vissas’ scores.

Emmy Schmidt stopped five of six shots in goal in the Hopkins win.

Girls cross country

Amherst came out on top of the 16-team field in the sixth annual Western Mass. Middle School cross country meet held at Dufresne Park on Thursday. The Hurricanes tallied 51 points, while PVCICS (66) and Hampshire (73) rounded out the top three teams.

Amherst’s Marit MacDonald’s time of 11:05.9 earned a first-place outright finish, while Maeve Cunningham (11:49.2) crossed the tape fourth overall to lead the scoring for the ‘Canes.

Ellery Maier of PVCICS (11:49.7), Addison Hill of Granby (11:56.0), and Lucy Skawski (11:57.6) of Hampshire  were the next-best finishers in Hampshire County.
