High schools: Sam Busone hat trick lifts Northampton past Monson 7-0

Sam Busone netted a hat trick and Northampton’s defense and goalie earned a shutout in a 7-0 boys soccer victory over Monson on Wednesday.

In addition to Busone’s hatty, Jasper Cantor netted a pair in the win. Also scoring for the Blue Devils were Owen MacLachlan and Minti Peterson. 

Gateway 3, Mount Everett 1 – Michael Nieves assisted on a pair of goals and Andrew Nedeoglo scored on a penalty kick to propel Gateway to a win. 

Sean Kingsley and Ivan Chepurenko both tallied for the Gators, and Gateway keepers Elijah Chepurenko (4) and Zack Hess (5) combined to secure the victory.

Girls soccer

Amherst 5, Palmer 5 – Amherst and Palmer played to a draw on Wednesday. 

Amherst’s Madeline Hockman secured a hat trick and added an assist, while teammates Zola Higham and Beatrice Eggemeier each scored once. Haydyn Reilly Hogan added an assist. 

Golf

Greenfield 175, Easthampton 221 – Amelia Gruber shot Easthampton’s lowest round of the day (45), but the Eagles couldn’t get past Greenfield on Wednesday. 

Anthony Torchia had Easthampton’s next best score of the day with a 53.

Girls cross country

Amherst 20, Belchertown 41
Amherst 15, Chicopee Comp 49
Belchertown 21, Chicopee Comp 34 –
 Belchertown’s Kami Wlodyka ran the fastest time on Tuesday with a 21:38, but the Amherst girls swept both Belchertown and Chicopee Comp in the team scores. 

After Wlodyka, Amherst had the next six runners cross the finish line, led by Elizabeth Sawicki (21:56). Isla Cusick (22:28), Willa Hudson (23:39) and Felix Goeckel (23:47) rounded out the top five for the ‘Canes. 

Cameron Ting placed eighth overall for the Orioles in 24:36.

Field hockey

 Belchertown 10, Hampshire 0 – Goalkeepers Brooke Stelmokas and Morgan Sambor combined for a shutout in net for the Orioles in their first game of the year. 

Six different players found the back of the next for Belchertown – Bella Cebula, Laura Cote, Izzy Cauley, Edith Audette, Maya Philpott and Lila Roy.
