HATFIELD — A driver crashed his car into a utility pole Wednesday morning on South Street, snapping the pole in half, police said.
Patrick Ryan, 70, of Hatfield, was taken in an ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital after crashing into the pole just down the road from his home, according to Hatfield Deputy Fire Chief Robert Flaherty, who said Ryan’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Power lines were hanging over the street on Wednesday morning, the top half of the old wooden pole dangling over Ryan’s wrecked 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Flaherty said Ryan was leaving his home to head out of town, and told authorities he did not remember running into the pole.
Jordan Williams, an overhead line supervisor with Eversource, said crews would fix the pole and dangling wires together with Verizon, which owns the town’s poles.
