R.J. Luis stayed in the UMass family.

The freshman transfer guard that left the Minutemen after an Atlantic 10 all-freshman first team season announced he’ll join former UMass point guard Rick Pitino at St. John’s on Sunday.

Luis averaged 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds over 27 games shooting 45 percent from the floor and 34.8 percent from 3. The Miami native had four 20-point games and a career-high 31 against Duquesne.

The Red Storm hired Pitino in March after three years at Iona. He’s brought in six other transfers from the likes of Oregon State, UConn and his former Gaels.

Six UMass players entered the transfer portal after last season.
