Two arrested on drug trafficking charges in Belchertown

BELCHERTOWN — Two Belchertown residents allegedly selling drugs from their Sargent Street home were arrested at their residence early Thursday morning, police said.

Timothy Hayward, 47, and Ashley St. Laurent, 33, both of 89 Sargent St., were taken into custody at 6:05 a.m. by members of the Northwestern District Anti-Crime Task Force and officers of the Belchertown Police Department after the execution of a search warrant.

Both were arrested on charges of trafficking cocaine, while Hayward is also facing a charge of possession of heroin, with intent to distribute, subsequent offense. St. Laurent is also facing a charge of possession of heroin.

The search uncovered about 119 grams of cocaine and 250 individual bags of heroin, as well as $5,210 in cash and other evidence of sales, police said.

Hayward and St. Laurent pleaded not guilty to the charges in Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown on Thursday. Hayward was held on $3,000 cash bail and St. Laurent was held on $1,500 cash bail. Their cases are continued to a pretrial conference June 16.
