CHESTERFIELD — The town is exploring regionalizing its police force with Goshen, with the Select Boards of both communities having discussed this possibility earlier this month.
“I don’t know what will come from it,” said Chesterfield Select Board Chairman Roger Fuller. “It’s definitely worth a conversation, for sure.”
Fuller said the Goshen and Chesterfield select boards met over Zoom this month and discussed regionalizing the two town’s departments, although he noted that “it wasn’t a long conversation.”
“It was really putting an idea out there,” Fuller said. “What will grow from it I’m not sure.”
Angela Otis, chair of the Goshen Select Board, said that it was Chesterfield that initially reached out about regionalization.
“We would be remiss in not considering everything,” Otis said.
She also said the Select Board is slated to discuss the future of the Goshen Police Department at a meeting in July, and from her point of view regionalization is something the Select Board will consider.
Fuller said that there’s already a lot that Chesterfield is involved in that’s regionalized, such as its school system and the emergency manager position.
“We’re connected pretty well with Goshen,” he said.
However, Fuller did note that currently there hasn’t been a second conversation scheduled with Goshen on regionalization.
