A veteran presence is coming to the UMass hockey goalie room.

Arizona State sophomore netminder Cole Brady announced Thursday on Twitter that he’s transferring to UMass.

“I am very thankful for my time at ASU and all the teammates I have made countless memories with. That being said I am very grateful to be continuing my college hockey career at UMass! Thank you to my friends and family for the continued support,” the Pickering, Ontario, native tweeted.

A 2019 fifth-round pick of the New Jersey Devils, Brady went 5-6 as a sophomore last season for the Sun Devils. He compiled a 3.89 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.

Before Arizona State, he played with current Minuteman Oliver McDonald on the Fargo Force in the USHL.

Outside of Brady, UMass’ two returning goalies had a combined four appearances and one start, all by freshman Luke Pavicich between Jan. 25 and Feb. 26. Graduate student Matt Murray handled the overwhelming bulk of UMass’ goaltending duties, but his eligibility finally exhausted after five seasons. Murray signed an amateur tryout agreement with the AHL’s Texas Stars earlier this week.
