Dashboard outlines Trump’s funding cuts to state

BOSTON — Gov. Maura Healey on Wednesday posted a new public dashboard, mass.gov/fedimpact, displaying the total amount of funding that the Trump administration has cut to state agencies in Massachusetts.

So far, $350 million in direct funding to the state has been cut, including funding for disaster prevention aid, school mental health services, tutoring, school security and building upgrades, healthy food for babies and students, respiratory illness prevention and treatment, community health centers, public health workers, substance use disorder treatment, increased broadband access and more.

In addition to direct funding cuts, the Trump administration has delayed hundreds of millions of dollars in funding distributions, including for key public health programs serving communities across the state. Similarly, hundreds of millions of federal dollars for federal programs, federal jobs, and NIH research also have been cut, or are proposed to be cut, with a direct impact on Massachusetts residents and the economy.

Additionally, the U.S. Department of Agriculture recently canceled critical shipments of food to local food banks. These cuts continue while Congress contemplates even bigger funding reductions that could directly impact hundreds of millions of dollars to the state through Medicaid cuts, reductions in the SNAP program, and additional changes to housing, education and transportation policy.

The dashboard also includes a reporting form for cities, towns, nonprofit organizations and businesses to notify the administration of funding cuts.

The dashboard will be updated regularly.

The Trustees has launched a campaign to raise funds to complete the purchase of the golf course with the intent to rewild it and open it as a conservation park for the public. The project costs approximately $5.5 million, with $4 million in funding coming from various grants and dedicated funds. The organization is asking the public to help raise as much of the $1.5 million remaining, as $700,000 has already been secured.

The “Experience Beaver Brook” event kicks off at 4:30 p.m. with guided walks of the property led by staff from The Trustees.

At 5:45 p.m., there will be a brief speaking program in the pavilion behind the clubhouse featuring Trustees President and CEO Katie Theoharides and Sally Loomis, executive director of the Hilltown Land Trust. Drinks and light food will be available.

More than 200 people have registered to attend, and parking is limited at Beaver Brook. Reserved overflow parking is available at Our Lady of the Hills Parish, 173 Main St. in Haydenville, just a short walk (on a sidewalk) to Beaver Brook.
