Pop-Up Holiday Fair set for Sunday in Leverett

LEVERETT — A Pop-Up Holiday Fair takes place at the Leverett Co-op, 180 Rattlesnake Gutter Road, Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.

The fair, which coincides with the ongoing holiday shoppe where people can buy gifts daily, will include crafts for children, book signings by local authors Claire Hopley and Ellen Evert Hopman, fairy hair weavings and fire cider tastings from Ahlbin’s in Greenfield.

Hot mulled cider and hot cocoa with mini marshmallows, and a selection of holiday baked goodies, will also be available at the holiday fair.

The event comes as the third annual holiday baskets silent auction takes place. Bidding on those baskets occurs through Dec. 20. The basket themes include bird watching, happy dog, gardening and body care.

Winners will be contacted on Dec. 21.

Meanwhile, jazz musician Stephen Merriman will be in concert at the co-op Friday for pizza night.

Comerford lands Beacon of Justice recognition

NORTHAMPTON — State Sen. Jo Comerford, D-Northampton, was recognized this week as a 2023 Beacon of Justice by Community Legal Aid’s Franklin County Access to Justice Committee.

During a luncheon Wednesday to support its work and expansion, Comerford offered remarks. She received the award in the fall from the Equal Justice Coalition, which drives statewide advocacy for Community Legal Aid.

“Access to powerful civil legal aid should not be out of reach for any individual in the Commonwealth,” Comerford said. “I am deeply grateful to Community Legal Aid for their work in representing often-marginalized communities in western Massachusetts and am thrilled to celebrate the organization’s new Greenfield office.”

Community Legal Aid provides free civil legal services to the Hampshire, Franklin, Hampden, Berkshire and Worcester counties.
