AMHERST — The Northwestern district attorney’s office has identifiey the 19-year-old Amherst teen killed in a single-vehicle crash on North East Street in Amherst Thursday night.
Sayhan Islam, 19, was driving with passengers when his car went off the road shortly before 11:30 p.m., striking a telephone pole in foggy and wet roadway conditions, according to police investigators.
Five passengers in the vehicle were injured in the crash and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office. There was no further information available Saturday regarding their injuries.
Amherst police responded to the scene after residents called 911 upon hearing the crash, which occurred near 711 North East St.
Amherst Police along with Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, troopers with the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) and State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS) are investigating the crash.
