South Hadley, MA – Roland W. Laramee, lifelong resident of South Hadley, passed away April 5, 2026 at the age of 89. He was a graduate of the South Hadley School System, Holyoke Junior College, and Western New England College, majoring in engineering. Roland was an Air Force Veteran, serving four years at Westover AFB and Goose Bay, Labrador. He was a registered professional engineer in the Commonwealth of MA and was a life member of both the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Roland had been employed at the Tighe & Bond Consulting Engineers for 24 years and was Town Engineer for the Town of Easthampton for 14 years, prior to his retirement in 1999.
Following his retirement, he compiled and drafted a historical digest of important events that occurred and shaped Easthampton's development from the town's founding until the new millennium. He also coached South Hadley Youth Baseball and enjoyed hunting and fishing in the woodlands and streams of New England and Canada. Over the years, he traveled widely with his wife Barbara and especially enjoyed exploring the far reaches of Alaska, from Yukon to the Bering Sea.
Roland was predeceased by his wife Barbara after 52 years of marriage in 2014, and a brother Norman in 2022. He leaves a son David and his wife Tammy of Monson, a daughter Cynthia Parentela and her husband Steven of Fellsmere, FL, three cherished grandchildren, Emily Oles of Florida, David Laramee and his wife Lindsey of South Carolina and Samantha Laramee of Granby, Connecticut, and one great-granddaughter Emerson Laramee of South Carolina. He also leaves behind two brothers, Dennis and Robert, both of South Hadley. Services will be held privately.
