Vera West-Davis of Amherst, born on April 23, 1943, peacefully passed away on March 29. Vera was the sixth of seven children of Osbourne C. and Mabel (Smith) West of Hadley.

Vera grew up on the family farm on Bay Road in Hadley. She attended Hadley schools and graduated from Hopkins Academy. After High school, she attended and graduated from Northampton Commercial College.

Vera was a longtime employee of the Town of Amherst, working at the Amherst Fire Department until her retirement in 2013.

After marrying her husband, Aaron Gene Davis, they built their home in Amherst.

Vera was involved in many clubs and activities. She was a member of the First Congregational church of Hadley, the National Holstein Association, and the New England States Holstein Association. Vera enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, playing card games, and reading.

Vera was involved in the family farm her entire life. She could be seen exhibiting the farm’s cows at local shows and fairs. The farm was her passion, and she often traveled to the World Dairy Expo with her brother Arthur.

Vera is survived by her sister Virginia Koehler, brother Tom, and wife Lisa West, and brother Arthur West, all of Hadley. She is also survived by her brother James and wife Cathy West of Marietta, GA, and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Osbourne and Mabel West; her husband, Aaron Davis; her sister, Elsie Andrews; and her brother, Louis West.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Vera’s name can be made to the Amherst Fire Department.

Calling hours will be Friday, April 17, 2026, from 4-6 PM at Douglas Funeral Home in Amherst. A private burial will be held for the immediate family.
