Trump has once again acted disgustingly and dangerously, this time targeting Iran. Leaving aside disgust and danger, however, we should be aware of his mad logic, based on the supposition that Iran might get a nuclear weapon. Yes, Iran might.
But if I think my neighbor might hurt me, am I allowed to hurt him first? Does any ‘Stand Your Ground’ law on guns permit me to shoot my neighbor first? No, I may not shoot or harm my neighbor preemptively, no matter how obnoxious or weird I find him to be, or how fearful I am.
