Cal Gworek’s huge night helped the Easthampton hockey team take down Agawam, 7-0, at Lossone Rink on Wednesday.
Gworek factored into all seven strikes for the Eagles, finishing the night with four goals and three assists.
Max Scribner (goal, assist), Wyatt Hunter (goal, assist), Brayden Fennessy (goal, two assists) and Parker Christy (two assists) also picked up multiple points for Easthampton, which moved to 2-0 following the victory.
Eagles goalie Lewin Coady grabbed the shutout with 18 saves.
Boys Basketball
Northampton 59, Amherst 50 — Eli Reid led the way for the Blue Devils with 16 points, with Nathan Lupert and Brayden Nichols-Staples tallying 13 each in the win.
The Hurricanes battled in the close contest, with Mitchell Carey leading his team in scoring with 16 points of his own. Samuel Woodruff was right behind him with 15, rounded out by Chris Camara, who finished with 11.
Northampton improves to 1-1, while Amherst’s first loss puts it at 2-1 on the young season.
Smith Voc 74, Baystate 70 — In a hard-fought victory, Domeniq Sanchez scored 27 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Vikings to their first win of the season.
Josh Cole made 11 shots from the field, tallying 24 points on the night. With just a one-point lead as the fourth quarter got underway, Smith Voc. showed up in the clutch for the win.
The Vikings now sit at 1-1 through their first two games of the year.
Girls basketball
Northampton 51, Brattleboro 38 — The Blue Devils got back in the win column in the interstate victory.
Emme Calkins starred for Northampton, securing 22 points on nine made shots from the floor, including a couple of 3-pointers. Anna Oravec was the only other Blue Devil to reach double figures, totaling 10 points.
Northampton bumps up to 2-1 overall.
Wrestling
Hampshire 48, Mohawk Trail 12 — Seven of the nine matches were won by the Raiders, who took the road victory.
Eli Willard (106), Shane Radon (113, one minute, seven seconds), Robert Zononi (126, 1:44), Taylan McColgan (138), Jacob Fisette (190), Harrison Farrar (215, 1:52) and Samuel Mathews (285, 3:07) accrued points for Hampshire with match wins.

Boys basketball
West Springfield 54, Easthampton 45 — Strong nights from Chase Canon-Smith and Patrick Larson couldn’t propel the Eagles past the Bulldogs.
Canon-Smith and Larson each netted 11 points, while Canon-Smith added seven assists and Larson snagged five rebounds plus dished out four assists.
The loss dropped Easthampton to 1-2 overall.
Girls basketball
Mahar 53, Smith Academy 28 — The Falcons were clipped by the Senators in their home opener.
Vivian Higuera (eight points) and Anna Scagel (seven points) were Smith’s top point-getters in the defeat. The Falcons fell to 0-2.
