Amherst, MA – Riki Lynn Hing, 76, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away surrounded by loved ones on October 3, 2025, in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Born on May 5, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, Riki was the eldest of four children to Robert and Kiku Uno. She brought warmth, creativity, and resilience to every chapter of her life. In 1989, she moved to Amherst, Massachusetts with her three children, embracing a new beginning in the Pioneer Valley.
Riki dedicated many years of service to the University of Massachusetts, forming close friendships while working in the Fine Arts Center, the Department of Psychology, and the Department of Hospitality and Services. She retired in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of quiet dedication and community spirit.
Outside of work, Riki found joy in the simple pleasures of New England life. She was an avid explorer of local tag sales, delighting in the hunt for hidden treasures. In autumn, she never missed a chance to admire the vibrant fall foliage.
She is survived by her children: Jacob (Brandi), James (Lauren), and Ellen (Steven); and her grandchildren: Steven, Hiro, Marissa, Fumiko, and Derek, and siblings Roger, Victor, and Roberta. Each brought her immense joy and pride.
Riki will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A private memorial is planned in Los Angeles, California in the summer of 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Riki’s memory-perhaps a visit to a tag sale or a walk among the autumn leaves.
