TURNERS FALLS — A picture-perfect October afternoon looked over Thomas Memorial Golf Club, where the Franklin Tech golf team hosted Smith Vocational on Monday. Behind a stellar even-par round of 35 from Jack Day, the Eagles got the best of the Vikings by a score of 157-176 to improve their record to 13-3 overall and 13-2 in the Bi-County League East.

Day was one of two golfers to break 40 on Monday, as his teammate and playing partner Grady Deery turned in a 39 as well. The duo of Day and Deery proved to be too much for Smith Vocational.

Rounding out Franklin Tech’s scoring was Braeden Talbot (40) and Mason Vassar (43). The win marked the fifth time the Eagles broke 160 as a team score.

For Smith Vocational, Keller McMahon led the way with a 42 including an impressive drive and approach shot on the par-4 5th hole. Andrew Persaud carded a 44 while Nate Lardahl and RJ Kaczenski each turned in a 45 to cap off the team score of 176 for the Vikings.

Smith Vocational (6-6) rounds out its regular season on Wednesday at Forrest Park Country Club against McCann Tech. Franklin Tech (13-3) takes on Mohawk Trail at Country Club of Greenfield on Tuesday afternoon.

Southwick 161, Hampshire 172 — The Raiders didn’t have their best stuff on Monday, as they lost by 11 strokes at Blanford Country Club to drop their record to 11-5 on the year.

Colby Cabrini turned in a 39 to lead Hampshire, Cole Boissonneault shot a 41, Riley Florek shot a 43 and three golfers tied with a 49 to round out the Hampshire scoring.

West Springfield 216, Belchertown 221 — Michael Murray dazzled with a 4-under round of 32, but the Orioles didn’t have any other golfer shoot better than 44 as they lost in sudden death on Monday.

Tied after the top four scores, the two teams turned to a fifth score to decide the match, and the Terriers had the lowest one to pick up the win.

William Mitus (44), Luke Heroux (45), Jacob Pacunas (48) and Andrew Wright (52) were the other four scores used for Belchertown.

Boys soccer

Pathfinder 2, PVCICS 0 — The Dragons couldn’t find the back of the net in a shutout loss to the Panthers on Monday afternoon. Pathfinder scored less than a minute into the game and that was all it needed.

An insurance goal in the 62nd minute sealed the deal. PVCICS keeper Grace Rachele made eight saves in a strong effort in goal.

Longmeadow 4, Belchertown 0 — Three first-half goals from the Lancers overwhelmed the Orioles on Monday, and they never gained any momentum in a shutout defeat against the western Massachusetts powerhouse.

Luke Dudek made nine saves in goal for Belchertown.

McCann Tech 4, Hopkins 0 — Rocco Cellana netted a hat trick as the Golden Hawks dropped a 4-0 bout to the Hornets at home.

Hopkins goalie Matt Feltovic made three saves in defeat.

South Hadley 3, Chicopee Comp 0 — Three different goal scorers paced the Tigers in a shutout win, as Ryan Trudel, Brady Graham and Jaxson Pueschel each found the back of the net.

Anthony Adams and Jameson Sabourn tallied assists while Noah Carillon’s three saves kept the Colts off the board.

Girls soccer

Northampton 3, South Hadley 0 — The Tigers got the best of the Blue Devils earlier this year, but Northampton was ready for its revenge on Monday. Willow Claps scored twice and Olivia Busone added another to give ‘Hamp a comfortable win at home.

Hattie Lewis and Margaux Galvin recorded the assists. Anna Oravec made five saves to earn the shutout victory.

South Hadley’s Olivia Athas stopped five shots in the box.

Hampshire 3, Monson 3 — After trailing 2-1 at halftime, the Raiders kicked it into gear and came back to earn a draw on Monday afternoon. Addie Miklasiewicz, Claire Packard and Libby Puttick each scored for Hampshire, which hasn’t lost a game in over a month (Sept. 5).

Makayla Labrie added an assist while Karaghan Rogalski made four saves in goal.

Easthampton 3, Palmer 1 — Arie Kuchyt scored twice, Samone Young tallied two assists and Noey Ryan had a strong game in goal with eight saves as the Eagles picked up a win on Monday afternoon.

Alana Halpin also scored for Easthampton and Lia Bock added a helper in the win.

Amherst 3, Granby 0 — The ‘Canes built on their 1-0 halftime lead by adding two daggers in the second, catapulting them to a decisive win over the Rams on Monday.

Beatrice Eggemeier and Nora Hanna were the Amherst goal scorers, while the third tally came on an own goal. Eggemeier added an assist as well and Maggie Reilly Hogan snatched four saves to earn the shutout.

“They are showing continued grit, hard work and dedication, which is coming together on and off the field,” Amherst head coach JW Benoit said. “Great job on another solid victory.”

Granby keeper Meredith Bartosz stopped five shots in the box in the loss.

Hopkins 2, Holyoke 1 — The Purple Knights received a first-half goal from Leilany Figueroa and took a 1-0 lead into the break, but the Golden Hawks responded in the second half with two to earn an impressive win on Monday.

Ephie Vissas and an own goal were the two tallies for Hopkins.

Girls volleyball

Easthampton 3, West Springfield 1 — A balanced effort spearheaded by Summer Routhier’s eight aces helped the Eagles to a 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-13 victory against the Terriers on Monday evening.

Routhier also recorded seven digs. Kaylin Dumas had five kills and three aces, Charlie Lusignan and Sophia Belfakih tallied four aces apiece and Brooke Skowron had six assists and three aces. Easthampton’s powerful serving was too much for West Side to handle.

Amherst 3, Baystate Academy 0 — A tough task awaited the Hurricanes on Monday evening, but they were more than ready for it as they waltzed into Springfield and left with a straight-set victory behind 24 combined kills from Kiko Bhowmik (13) and Alyciana Hackett (11).

Set scores were 25-22, 25-20, 25-18.

Bhowmik added 14 digs, Ava Carey also had 14 digs and four aces, Rosalie Davis dished out 18 assists and Olivia Nolan had 14 assists of her own for Amherst.

Minnechaug 3, Frontier 0 — The Redhawks were unable to pick up a set against the Falcons on Monday evening, as they lost 25-17, 25-18, 25-14.

Avah Spearance had six kills and six digs, Morgan Mason put up a team-high four aces while Caitlin Maio recorded three aces and three kills. Maio and Kaelyn Johnson tied for a team-high in digs with seven.

Belchertown 3, SICS 2 — Layla Liminski put down a whopping 21 kills and Olivia Skora added 34 assists and 14 digs in the Orioles 15-18, 17-25, 25-22, 25-27, 15-12 marathon win on Monday.

Kaiya Cavanaugh was incredible at libero, digging up 46 balls, while Cassidy MacLean added seven kills, five aces and 10 digs for Belchertown. Five different Os players recorded 10 or more digs in a strong defensive game.
