At halftime, it looked as if the Northampton boys soccer team’s undefeated record was in jeopardy as Agawam worked the Blue Devils to a 0-0 draw at the break.

But the Blue Devils’ play makers took over from there, as Will Senn-McNally and Jasper Cantor tallied two second half goals to defeat Agawam 2-0 and improve to 6-0 on the year. Cantor netted his team-best sixth goal of the season while Cantor scored goal No. 4 in the Northampton win.

Justin Zaruma-Buri tallied an assist on the Cantor tally, while Matthew Walko grabbed two saves in the box to earn the shutout victory.

Northampton is outscoring opponents 18-4 through its first six contests, and the Blue Devils will look to keep it going next Wednesday against Minnechaug under the lights at home. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Chicopee 3, South Hadley 0 — Tigers goalie Noah Carillon grabbed four saves in the box, but the South Hadley offense couldn’t generate enough to keep up with the Pacers on Friday.

Griffen Wrisley scored twice to pace Chicopee in the win.

Granby 3, Ware 0 — Three different scorers aided the Rams’ victory on Friday night, as Brandon Carillon, Steven Szlosek and Conor Callery scored in the win.

Anthony Santiago assisted the Carillon tally while Daniel Santiago made two saves in the shutout.

Springfield Central 1, Frontier 0 — Jayden Rodriguez tallied the winning goal in 68th minute as the Golden Eagles bested the Redhawks in Springfield Friday night.

Jack Cusson stopped five shots in goal for Frontier. The Hawks recorded 10 shots on goal but failed to put one in.

Minnechaug 2, Amherst 0 — The Hurricanes dropped a Churchill League battle to the Falcons on Friday evening in Amherst.

Amherst is now 3-3-1 and will look to get back on track after three contests in a row without a victory.

Mount Greylock 1, Hampshire 0 — After a 4-0 start to the year, the Raiders have dropped two straight following the close defeat to the Mounties on Friday afternoon.

Hampshire is now 4-2 this fall and will return to action on Monday against Wahconah.

Commerce 4, Holyoke 2 — The Purple Knights couldn’t keep up their momentum following a win on Thursday, as they dropped a 4-2 bout to Commerce on Friday.

Holyoke is now 3-3-1 and still has hopes to compete for the Bi-County League East title.

Girls soccer

Hopkins 4, Greenfield 2 — Bridget Benoit netted a hat trick as the Golden Hawks doubled up the Green Wave’s scoring on Friday afternoon.

Ephie Vissas also scored for Hopkins, while Alayna Bailey (two) and Zoey Wojtowicz tallied assists. Abril Cabrera made four saves in the win.

Smith Vocational 3, SICS 1 — After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Vikings turned things up a notch as they stormed from behind to win a Pioneer League South matchup on Friday night in Springfield.

Smith Voc is now 4-0-2 as its undefeated record remains intact.

St. Mary’s 5, Smith Academy 1 — The Falcons played a very competitive second half, but the game was already out of hand as the Saints put up four in the first 40 minutes to hand Smith loss No. 3 of the fall.

Anna Scagel scored her third goal in two days with one on Friday, while Emily Pearl notched an assist. Vivian Higuera had 11 saves.

Easthampton 1, Chicopee 1 — Samone Young scored the lone Eagles goal as they tied the Pacers in a Pioneer League North bout on the road.

Easthampton is still undefeated at 4-0-2 on the year.

Field hockey

Northampton 2, Holyoke 0 — Jordan Sage’s second-quarter goal stood as the game winner on Friday, as the Blue Devils picked up their first win of the season over the Purple Knights.

Ryleigh Eline also scored for Northampton, while goalie Charlotte Johnson-Mersack made two saves. Holyoke keeper Catalina Cotto stopped eight Blue Devils shots in the cage.

Frontier 2, Greenfield 0 — It was the Macy DeMaio and Haly Doucette-Kaplan show on Friday afternoon, as the pair scored and assisted on each other’s goals in the Redhawks rivalry win.

Doucette-Kaplan scored in the third quarter to break a scoreless tie, then DeMaio added the dagger.

South Hadley 3, Southwick 2 — A trio of different goal scorers helped the Tigers earn a massive win over the reigning Class C champion Rams on Friday afternoon.

Sam Harrison, Nora Vaughn and Laraghan Wadel scored the South Hadley goals, with Vaughn and Harrison dishing out assists.

South Hadley is now 4-1 in its first varsity season since 2022.

Girls volleyball

Amherst 3, Chicopee 0 — Kiko Bhowmik’s 13 digs, three aces and seven kills led the way as the Hurricanes swept the Pacers on Friday night.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-18, 25-23.

Alyciana Hackett added six kills, Ava Carey had 14 digs, Olivia Nolan dished out 13 assists and Mariam Ben Nekhi recorded seven digs and a pair of aces in the win.
