The Holyoke Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed its second class Saturday at the Wherehouse? in Holyoke, inducting five legends, eight individuals, two contributors, two coaches and two teams.

In the legends category, Robert “Bo” Brennan (Class of 1951) was a three-sport athlete who led Holyoke to a state baseball championship as a junior. He played in the minor leagues.

Arthus “Hec” Garvey (1919) played football at Notre Dame for Knute Rockne as a lineman. He played provessionally for the Packers, Bears and Giants.

Pierce “Gerry” Geran (1914) was the first American to play in the NHL for the Montreal Wanderers and won the silver medal on the 1920 Olympic team. He finished his career for the Bruins.

William “Bucky” Gorham (1952) played football, basketball, swimming and track and field. He was on the Holyoke Peanut Bowl team and played semi-pro football for the Holyoke Merchants.

Paul Mackey (1949) played four sports for the Purple Knights and was named all-Western Mass in football and basketball. He earned a scholarship to Dartmouth. After turning down several NFL offers, Mackey returned to Holyoke to coach for Archie Roberts Sr. He was a 13-yar AA conference football referee.

For individuals, Patricia “Tricia” Ginley (1981) led Holyoke to the Western Mass basektball final her senior year. She played collegiately at Mount Holyoke. Ginley was named all-Western Mass twice.

Andy Larrow (1979) won two Bessone Awards and led the Purple Knights to two WesternMass championships.

Sharon Matos (2004) was the greatest female basketball player in Dean Tech history.

Laura McLain (1981) played field hockey, basketball and softball. She led Holyoke to the Western Mass final her senior year and played at Mount Holyoke.

David “Oakie” O’Connell (1981) lost in the state finals and state semifinals to Patrick Ewing’s Cambridge Rindge & Latin squads. He was known for a sweet jump shot and black high top Converse with knee-high white socks.

Don Whelihan was a three-sport star, playing linebacker and catcher. His unorthodox basketball style sent him to the free-throw line often.

Mark Wohlers (1988) signed with the Atlanta Braves out of high school.

Bob Zwirko (1968) was named a Parade All-American in football and baseball. Scored four touchdowns to lead Duke to an upset over 10th-ranked Stanford.

In the contributor category, Gary Brown was a sports reporter, columnist and editor for the Springfield Union, Daily News, Union-News and Sunday Republican.

Ron Young (1955) was a multi-sport referee for more than 50 years. He was known for giving back to the community and working with Holyoke students with special needs.

William Kane (1967) was a longtime cross country and track and field coach and taught science at Holyoke. He is a Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee and an internationally recognized track official, working the U.S. Olympic Trials, Goodwill Games, World University games and 1996 Olympics.

Joe McCarthy coached baseball for 18 years, won the 1985 state championship and has been inducted into the Western Mass Baseball Hall of Fame. He won 76 percent of his games.

The 1985 Holyoke baseball team is also being inducted with a 24-1 record and the Division 1 state and Western Mass championships.

The 1994 Dean Tech boys volleyball team was the first Dean team to win a Western Mass championship and compiled a 15-3 record.
