Weekend colleges: Will Manny scores 100th career goal in loss by UMass lacrosse 

Will Manny scored his 100th career goal, but the University of Massachusetts men’s lacrosse team lost 9-5 to Towson on Saturday in Towson, Md.

Manny’s goal came in the fourth period with the Minutemen (5-6, 0-3 CAA) trailing 9-2. Kyle Smith had a goal and an assist for UMass.

Zach Oliveri made 10 saves in net.

Middlebury 10, Amherst 8 — Devin Acton had two goals as the Lord Jeffs (3-6, 2-4 NESCAC) saw their comeback bid fall short in a loss at home Saturday.

Women’s lacrosse

UMass 10, George Washington 9 — Katie Ferris had three goals and three assists for No. 13 UMass (11-2, 3-0 A-10) at home Saturday. Ferris tied the program record for career points (226).

Middlebury 13, Amherst 4 — Marta Randall scored twice for Amherst (6-4, 3-3 NESCAC) in a road loss Saturday.

Mount Holyoke 17, MIT 6 — The Lyons (8-2, 2-1 NEWMAC) got five goals from Kirsten Kilburn in a home win Saturday.

Wheaton 13, Smith College 5 — Christina Vara had two goals in a home loss Saturday for the Pioneers (3-8).

Franklin & Marshall 21, McDaniel College 13 — Amherst native Anna Beaudry scored twice for the Green Terror (6-5) in Saturday’s loss in Lancaster, Pa.

Baseball

Connecticut 5, St. John’s 3 — Ryan Horstman of South Hadley took the loss on the mound Sunday in Storrs, Conn.

Horstman (4-4) struck out one and allowed two earned runs in three innings.

UMass 2, Rhode Island 0; Rhode Island 3, UMass 1 — The Minutemen (4-17, 1-5) split a pair on the road over the weekend.

Andrew Grant threw a comple game shutout on Saturday for UMass.

Amherst 4, Middlebury 3; Amherst 11, Middlebury 1 — Mike Odenwaelder and Jonathan Ramirez went a combined 9-for-10 with eight RBIs as Lord Jeffs (12-5, 3-0 NESCAC) swept their doubleheader at home Saturday.

Endicott 16, Eastern Nazarene 7 — Freshman Mike Walkowicz of Amherst struck out six in five innings of work to earn the win on the mound Saturday at home.

Belchertown’s Kevin Dupras pitched an inning of scoreless relief.

Westfield 3, Framingham 2; Framingham 5, Westfield 3 — Jeremy Tanguay of Huntington had a combined four hits and an RBI for the Owls (9-9, 3-1 MASCAC) in Saturday’s doubleheader at home.

Softball

UMass 5, La Salle 0; UMass 8, La Salle 0; Fordham 17, UMass 11 — The Minutewomen (9-17, 6-2 A-10) lost Saturday but swept La Salle on Sunday.

Quianna Diaz-Patterson of Amherst had a combined four hits, two RBIs and three runs scored over the weekend.

Wellesley 9, Smith 0; Wellesley 9, Smith 4 — Tori Brown had a combined three hits and an RBI in a pair of losses for the Pioneers (4-14, 0-8 NEWMAC)Saturday.

Amherst 11, Hamilton 2; Hamilton 13, Amherst 7 — In a Saturday split at home, Reilly Horan combined for five hits and six RBIs for Amherst (13-4).

Women’s track and field

Keri Lambert of Amherst won the 1500-meter run (4:39.44) for Amherst College at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Springfield on Saturday. The Lord Jeffs placed eighth.

Mount Holyoke took ninth at the event. Camille Coklow won the 100-meter (12.56) for the Lyons.

Men’s track and field

— Tyler Keith of Florence placed sixth in the 5000-meter (15:52.75) for Gettysburg College at the Millersville Metrics on Saturday in Millersville, Pa.

— Amherst College placed fifth at the Yellow Jacket Invitational Saturday. Matt Melton won the 400-meter (48.75) and Andrew Erskine won the 10k (32:12.21) event for Amherst.

Women’s tennis

Mount Holyoke 5, Connecticut College 4; RPI 7, Mount Holyoke 2 — The Lyons (8-7) split a pair at home Saturday. Nahree Han and Eman Malik won second doubles in the win over Connecticut College.

Men’s tennis

Amherst 5, Bates 4 — Mark Kahan won second singles for the No. 19 Lord Jeffs (16-7, 2-0 NESCAC) in Saturday’s home win.
