Wednesday’s colleges: Smith College sinks Mount Holyoke

The Smith College basketball team overcame early shooting woes to cruise past Mount Holyoke 65-44 in Northampton Wednesday.

The Pioneers (15-2, 10-1 NEWMAC) shot 1 for 8 to open the game as the Lyons (4-12, 2-9) took an early 9-4 lead.

Smith recovered and led 33-28 at halftime.

Paulina Solis finished with 16 points, nine assists, eight steals and five rebounds for the Pioneers. Devon Quattrocchi added 11 points, while Lauren Weston of Florence added eight points and nine rebounds in 13 minutes of action.

Angelica Pascual had 15 points and Amber Legare added 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Lyons. Kate Karraker chipped in with 11 points.

Butler 75, UMass 61 — Jasmine Watson scored 15 points, while Millie Niggeling added 10 points and 10 rebounds but the Minutewomen (3-15, 1-2 Atlantic 10) fell at home.
