Northampton tire dealer helps youth soccer league
Pete’s Tire Barn has been supporting youth soccer programs in towns and cities across New England for the past several years, in partnership with Michelin North America. In addition to monetary funding, the support comes mainly through the donation of soccer balls.
This year, Northampton’s Recreation Department is receiving $778 in the form of soccer balls and donations for their youth soccer league from this initiative. Jim Haibon, a retail manager with Pete’s Tire Barn Inc. explained that $2 from each tire that was sold at the Northampton location between September and October of this year was donated by Michelin North America, and that amount was then matched by Pete’s.
Haibon said that most youth soccer programs in New England are struggling to meet expenses, such as for equipment, uniforms and field maintenance, and that each year his company helps out one or two local youth leagues in each of the communities where its stores are located.
Over at Northampton’s Recreation Department, Director Ann-Marie Moggio said the donations offset program costs such as money spent on equipment and T-shirts.
Moggio said she thinks that Pete’s support for the local soccer leagues sets a great example for other businesses. “It’s always wonderful when we get donations from the community because it helps to keep everything affordable and helps to keep the programs affordable for all members of our community,” she said.
