Colleges: Smith College downs Fitchburg State

The Smith College soccer team scored a goal in each half and shut out Fitchburg State Tuesday in Northampton.

The Pioneers (7-8) took a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute on an own goal.

Aidan Hitt then converted a penalty kick in the 73rd minute for the second goal.

Cody Norris (three saves) and Darlenne Chavarrla (no saves) shared time in net for the shutout.

Field hockey

Elms College 3, Regis College 1 — Meghan Goodrow of Sunderland had an assist as the Blazers (7-10, 5-1 NECC) won in Chicopee.

Mount Holyoke 3, Westfield State 0 — Anna Hartman, Angelica Pascual (assist) and Christine Ianni each scored a goal as the Lyons (7-8) won in Westfield.

Kirsten Kilburn had one assist, while Emma Ross (no saves) and Anne O’Byrne (one save) shared time in net.

Women’s volleyball

Smith College 3, Mount Holyoke 1 — The Pioneers (7-17, 3-5 NEWMAC) kept their playoffs hopes alive with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-27, 25-19 victory in South Hadley.
