Sunderland solar vote postponed until Jan. 30
SUNDERLAND — The special Town Meeting for residents to vote on leasing land for two solar farms has been postponed until Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Sunderland Elementary School.
The meeting, originally scheduled for Wednesday night, was postponed due to the snowstorm.
Residents will be asked to lease land at the Sunderland Elementary School and a parcel near the town public safety complex to be used for solar farms. The town will also be asked to authorize the selectmen to enter into a contract to buy the power from Broadway Electrical Co., a Boston-based solar developer chosen by the town to install and operate two solar arrays.
Broadway Electrical proposed a solar farm that would produce 193,966 kilowatt hours annually on 0.62 acres at the elementary school parcel on Swampfield Drive.
The second solar farm would produce 481,034 kilowatt hours annually on 2.37 acres behind the public safety complex on River Road.
