Steve Robinson: A big thank you to Northampton health agents
To the editor:
I wanted to take this opportunity to extend a sincere thank you to Merridith O’Leary and Ed Smith, the Northampton Board of Health agents. We recently worked together to solve a fairly substantial housing problem. After a horrible experience I had a few years ago with the Easthampton Board of Health, under the previous leadership, I was very reluctant and somewhat nervous to have them intervene in this situation, even though I could not handle by myself.
After getting them involved, I found that they were kind, courteous and very helpful in rectifying the situation. They were very professional and very sympathetic at the same time. They communicated to me with respect, gave me referrals to get help, and were there every step of the way until we got the situation fixed.
In fact, they went way past their duties as health agents and were concerned with how the situation was affecting my business and even helped me to keep the cost down on fixing it. I have never had that kind of experience with any city official before. Again, I want to say thank you, Merridith and Ed, for going above and beyond your duties as health agents for the city of Northampton.
