Sue Katz: Trolley beckons for Amherst art lovers
To the editor:
Amherst has a new treat for the Amherst Art Walk — an old-fashioned trolley to ride the route to our downtown art galleries and venues showing art.
The walk is normally on the first Thursday of each month, but this July it’s on July 11.
Check it out. Walk around the center of town to visit the Burnett Gallery in the Jones Library, the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce and Gallery A3 — Collective Copies and GoBerry have art up too. And it’s nice to get a free ride down East Main Street to visit Hope & Feathers and more, such as the Jewish Community of Amherst.
Sartre said that if we love flowers, we will water our plants. I feel that we should support local business — “buy local” food for our bodies and “buy local” art for our souls.
We sometimes buy prints of Rembrandt or Picasso. Let’s consider contemporary, meaningful art made here and now.
Have some fun and try the trolley!
