Linda Cummings: Many reasons why old Easthampton High School must come down
To the editor:
I’m writing in response to a Feb. 10 letter that questioned why Easthampton will demolish the city’s old high school once the new one is complete.
Please review the reasons for building the new school. There is extreme deterioration of the building itself and the structure is not conducive to apartments or offices, not to mention that it is only 25 to 30 feet from the new building.
As to the farewell messages on the old school’s walls, they are being done under the guidance of adults as part of an art project, as the Gazette reported. It is not the same as graffiti or vandalism and the students know the difference.
