Ensuring safety of students takes priority
To the editor:
My two grandchildren attended Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Conn., for their elementary school years and I was devastated by the massacre there. When a threatening note was found at Northampton High School, I was grateful the police and administrators did what they had to do to ensure the safety of the students and staff.
I’m sure it was a difficult decision to request a written pledge from the students, but what if nothing was done and the outcome had been as it was in Newtown? I am grateful that at the end of the school day on Dec. 19, the students and staff at Northampton High School were safe.
