Better crosswalks would make Northampton safer
To the editor:
Northampton’s jaywalking problem is at epidemic levels with no actual remedy available. There is a partial solution available, however. Raising crosswalks up some, creating a speed bump effect, as Westfield has done, forces motorists to do the speed limit and makes them constantly aware that, at the next bump/walk, someone may be in it or entering and they will have to stop. No more making believe motorists don’t see pedestrians about to enter a walk or someone already in the walk on the other side and speeding up to get through it in this new elevated walk system.
