Kathleen Winkworth: FCAWM praises Dignity Project coverage
To the editor:
I want to thank the Gazette for its excellent series, The Dignity Project, as well as the June 25 article on funeral planning. As last week’s pieces made clear, planning ahead is a loving gift to give one’s family and friends. The article correctly stated that the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Western Massachusetts produces a funeral directory and price survey every two years. The 2014 survey will be available in the fall and the funeral homes list has just been updated. The FCAWM is a nonprofit, nonsectarian volunteer organization dedicated to a consumer’s right to choose those funeral arrangements that are appropriate for any individual situation.
Our website, www.funeralconsumerswmass.org, has information on a wide range of end-of-life issues. In addition to the price survey, there are links to a variety of topics such as cremation, conventional burial, green burial, home funerals and donation of organs or whole body.
We welcome community members to our monthly board meetings as well as our annual meeting and program on Oct. 19. This year’s program will be “Choices in After Death Care.”
