Aileen Weld: Young men’s snow clearing hugely appreciated
To the editor:
I would like to let everyone know, especially the University of Massachusetts Amherst, about the spectacular sight I saw last Saturday when I looked out my window at the snow-covered cars in the parking lot of Chestnut Court. I was amazed to see a group of young men clearing off the cars, and when they approached my car with two feet of snow on top, I asked who these wonderful people were. One young man smiled at me and replied “We’re your neighbors.” Upon visiting with another young man, I found out that they had contacted the Amherst Housing Authority to see where they could help, and told me they were from the fraternity of Phi Kappa Phi.
I thanked them all profusely, as it would have been a horrendous task for most of us to clear the snow all around our cars, as well as on top, and the young man I was talking with commented that they were happy they could help. There were a lot of cars that they cleared, and a lot of time and effort was spent by them. I want that group of fine young men to know how very grateful this neighborhood of senior citizens are for their help.
